“Mother
Earth, we feel your tears,
From deep
inside your core,
Emotions
built up for years,
From the
destruction and the war.”
Kelley Christine Phelan, from her poem “Mother
earth.”
Kelley Phelan shares various stories through
poetry. It is not clear whether she went through all these experiences herself,
but the honesty of these verses shakes the readers.
There are stories of grief, trauma and loss;
stories of transformation, growth, hope and perseverance.
After navigating the murky waters of harrowing
experiences and unhealthy relationships, her spiritual self is awakened to her
inner light, in communion with the creator, connected to the love of her
ancestors and to the refuge Mother Nature provides amid her confusion and
despair.
The name of her poetry book refers to the meaning of
her Gaelic last name: “wolf,” her spirit animal. She is somehow guided by the
courage, intelligence and resilience of the wolf.
There is no way out of grief. It is through
grief that we can move forward. There are many stages in one’s life journey.
She believes this book of poetry is a pivotal one to inspire others to cherish
their inner light and to move forward.
Irrespective of how much pain you carry inside yourself as a result of past experiences, your
life matters.
I thank the
poet for sending me a copy of Little Wolf, Little Warrior.
