Choices

"Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Today I want to share this poem by Bekah Steimel.

  1. Beautiful poem. I think that life, as a journey, is a matter of choice. You have all the freedom to choose what kind of life you want to live. And along with freedom which allows you to choose, you decide to create your own destiny.

  2. Lovely poem! And a lovely quote by Emerson. I have always loved Emerson's writing, and the poem captures the above insight so well.

  3. Excellent poem and quote. I like the idea behind both.

I have somewhere I want to get to and I'm currently hacking my way through the metaphorical undergrowth to reach my target.

  4. Hello Julia,

It is not so easy to make one's own way in life. There are always people to give advice, to persuade and to lead one astray. Staying true to your own path is often lonely, sometimes frightening and yet, always more satisfying in the end.

The quotation and poem give great inspiration to follow a path less travelled by others and to stay true to one's own ideals, hopes and dreams. Better to attempt the extraordinary we think rather than be drowned in the mundane.

  5. Wonderful sentiments! I'd have to say I agree and have pretty well followed them in my life.

  6. I like this feeling of finally making a choice. It really reminds me of the words to Elton John's "Goodby Yellow Brick Road." The quotation is something to ponder over.

  8. Julia, thank you for sharing Bekah Steimel’s delightful poem! I like what it says about choices and pursuing “with a dogged determination up my personal path to the stars.”

That's an excellent Emerson quote too. The quote and photo perfectly accompany the poem. Did you take that photo? It's nice.

    1. Thank you, dear Jersey.
You are the first one to ask about the photo!
Yes, I took that picture myself last Saturday when I was walking up along the trail to the bluff. It was magical to be amid those trees by myself.
Thank you for your lovely comment.
